Literally, in this case
Last weekend, my wife and I went to Dallas for a wedding. Of all the major cities in Texas, Dallas is the only I hadn’t visited. We weren’t there for long, but one of my most important rules as a writer is to always keep your eyes open. You never know when you’ll see drama, beauty, or wonder.
One of my other maxims is that learning at least some technique of other art forms can benefit your writing. In this case, I’ve been taking up photography to teach myself light, framing, and how to think visually.
Here’s what I saw in my 36 hours in Dallas. All photos taken with my Android camera – I was traveling super light.
The Dallas Arboretum
Do you get outside in nature enough? If you don’t, you should. Nothing like stripping away the trappings of civilization to give you perspective.

Dallas Thanks-Giving Square
A non-denominational chapel dedicated to the concept of gratitude, and how it creates joy from that which you already have.

The Giant Eyeball
I want to be very clear. There was NO context for this. It’s literally just in the middle of downtown next to a bar.
I love that. I love such a wondrous and mysterious thing just sitting there, inviting you to explain it.
