Copywriting Practice – Cold E-mail for a Smart Water Bottle

Today’s copywriting practice is a cold sales e-mail for a “Smart Water bottle”, aimed at a busy working professional.

Hey [First name],

We know you’re busy, so we’ll cut to the chase. You’re crushing it, but you aren’t taking care of yourself. You should be drinking more water, but the last thing you need is another mid-meeting distraction. Can’t it wait?

No, it cannot. Multiple medical studies have shown that even mild dehydration can reduce cognitive function and working memory.

That’s right. Not being hydrated is making you worse at your job.

You need something that will remind you to hydrate when you need to and leave you alone when you don’t. HydroTech Pro.

Our patented waterproof sensors track how much water you’ve been drinking, transmit that data to the HydroTech app, which sends you discrete reminders on your phone or smartwatch if you’re overdue for some H20. No annoying repetitive calendar reminders. It’s your own personal hydration assistant.

Make hydration a habit, with HydroTech.

This was a fun one to work on – less the audience (busy working professionals are a copywriter’s bread and butter), but the product. Trying to figure exactly how a smart water bottle could solve someone’s problem was a real challenge.

The trick was focusing on the fact that building a water drinking habit, when you’re busy, is kind of a pain. It’s so easy to get focused on something important and forget, and calendar reminders don’t always work. Sometimes you’re stuck in a meeting or just not thristy. Hence, a habit-building bottle that works with what you’re doing that day.

Full disclosure: The prompt (both the product and the audience) was generated by ChatGPT. Any work I put on my blog is 100% written by me.
